A worn and clipped medieval silver penny, probably of Edward IV (second reign AD 1471-1483) dating to AD 1480-1483. Type XXI 4-6. Struck at the episcopal mint in York under Archbishop Thomas Rotherham. North (1991: 94) No. 1656. Obverse: Crowned bust facing - T to left and key to the right of neck / shoulders. A hammered silver Irish penny of Edward IV (1461-1483).The obverse has the crowned bust with a mullet to each side of the crown.The reverse has a long cross pattée with three pellets in each angle and the quatrefoil at centre.The coin is probably from the light ‘cross and pellets’ issue circa 1473-78. This coin is deeply clipped with four clear cuts to each quadrant.
