A medieval silver penny of Stephen (AD 1135-1154), Irregular Issue, Midlands and South-Western Area (North 887; cf. Mack 181-2), struck by Rogier at the Oxford mint. Ref: North 1994: 206-7; Mack 1966: 69-70. The coin is complete and hardly worn, well struck slightly off-centre. There is a straight crease across the coin, below the centre - the finder reports that he found the coin bent and had it straightened before realising what the coin was.

Silver penny of Stephen (AD 1135-1154). Cross and piles type dating to the period circa AD1150-1154. The Moneyer and Mint cannot easily be resolved but the reverse legend appears to read +REINALD:ON:G[R?]A ; in which case this is a coin of the Cambridge moneyer Reinald, previously recorded in Stephen type 7. The coin has been recorded on the Fitzwilliam Early Medieval Coin Corpus reference EMC 2019.0198. There are two very small nicks in the periphery of the coin. Measurements: 19.0mm in diameter, 0.5mm thick and 1.3g in weight.
