A late Saxon silver penny of Aethelred II; Last Small Cross issue, North no. 777 (1980: 121), minted 1009-1017. Moneyer: Mana at Thetford. The coin is bent and slightly worn. It measures 19.8mm in diameter, 0.6mm thick and weighs 1.71g. This coin is of slightly unusual form, having a blundered legend and unusual surface appearance. Initially thought to be a modern reproduction, it is now considered to be genuine, a possible example from the same die (1944,4-1,23) having been identified within the British Museum's collection.
