Ref: North 1994: 168; Screen 2015: cf. nos 2899, 2950-2, 2956, 3033 for mint spelling.  Measurements: length 9.78mm, width 8.58mm, thickness 0.73, weight 0.27g. The surviving reverse inscription [  ]NDN[ ] is likely a portion of the mint name and is listed for London in Cnut's 'Pointed Helmet' issue, e.g. LVNDN, LVNDNN (see Screen 2015).

An Early Medieval silver penny of Cnut (AD1016-1035), dating AD1024-1030. North no. 787. The coin is fragmentary but almost 100% remains so it is possible to identify. The coins is of the pointed helmet variety, with a bust facing left wearing a pointed hat and sceptre in front. The inscription reads CNVT / [R]EX ANL. The obverse depicts a voided long cross with a pellet in the centre, in each quarter a broken annulet with a pellet within. The inscription reads PYNSTAN ON LVND, indicating the moneyer as Wynstan from the London mint. Dimensions: diameter: 18.17 mm; weight: 0.92g.
