Silver coin. Sceat, series E issue of 700-765, probably from Dorestad mint. The exact arrangement of reverse, which seems unusually tidy, is not illustrated by Abramson (2006).
Obverse description: porcupine; crescentic curve right with nine curved pellet-ended bars outside it and enclosing four short bars with a pellet at each end and a small straight feature at edge of flan.

The coin is worn and chipped. There is some copper corrosion products, especially on the surface of the reverse, but it does not appear that this is a plated copy rather a lower fineness of silver.

An incomplete silver early penny (aka sceat) of Series E (variety D or related), dating to c. AD700-740 and probably struck in the Netherlands. Ref: Metcalf and Op den Velde 2009-10: 34-6.
The coin is chipped at one point around the edge and is encrusted with (what appears to be) sandy soil. There is some evidence for copper corrosion on the reverse suggesting the coin is not fine silver but to some extent debased.
The general design of the coin matches that for the Primary Phase variety D, dating c. AD700-20, but the characteristic triangle at the right-hand end of the cur…
