A Medieval hammered silver coin fragment of William I or William II, a PAXS penny (BMC type 8), probably North 848/9. The mint and moneyer are unknown due to the damage to the legends. Dates to between c1083 and c1088 AD. It looks more damaged than intentionally cut. The length is 14.5mm, the width is 11mm, and the weight 0.42g. The original diameter was approximately 17mm.

A modern imitation of a medieval silver penny of William I (1066-1089), Pax type (North 858-50). The reverse inscription reads STAMFORD CASTLE rather than giiving a mint and moneyer and the weight is too high for an official, medieval issue. As the coin is incomplete it is not possible to ascertain which mint or moneyer the coin the struck by, however the moneyer could be Brihtwi, Brihtword, Brihtwold or Brihtwine. These moneyers struck at several mints across the country.
