An early medieval silver penny probably of Ceolwulf I dating to AD 821-823. The coin is incomplete. [COELW]LF REX obverse depicting a finely drawn crowned bust facing right within a penannular ring with a break beneath the head with lines flaring to the edge of the flan and in the centre a cross in saltire with pellets in each quarter. HEREBE+RH[T] reverse the legend in three lines separated by raised lines. Moneyer HEREBERHT. Mint of East Anglia. Probably North 392 (North, JJ, 1994, English Hammered Coinage Volume 1, p 96, no 392).
