Record ID: DOR-9AB343
Object type: COIN
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An early-medieval silver penny of Harold I (1035-40) Fleur-de-lis type (North 803; BMC v) dating to 1038-1040, mint: Gloucester, moneyer: probably Ælfsige. Reference: North 1994: 171. Only about half of the coin survives, broken along the line of the horizontal arms of the reverse cross. It appears that this is a break, with quite rough edges, rather than a deliberate cutting of the coin into a halfpenny. Diameter: 18.28 mm Weight: 0.54g Die axis: 12
