A hammered silver penny, probably of Richard III (1483-85). The coin is heavily clipped and identified as a penny by the diameter of the inner circle on the reverse side at 11mm, consistent with the type. The coin is from the Durham mint and has the crowned bust facing on the obverse and a long cross pattée with three pellets in each angle and a ‘D’ at the centre, to the reverse. It is probable that the coin was struck at the Durham Episcopal mint of John Sherwood but the ‘s’ to the obverse is illegible.

A heavily clipped silver penny, probably of Edward IV, Durham mint, second reign. The reverse is very worn, but in the centre there appears to be a letter D, which would indicate Bishop Lawrence Booth at Durham. Alternatively, and less likely, the 'D' may be a quatrefoil which would indicate York mint.
