An incomplete medieval silver penny, probably, of Edward III (r,1327-77) from the Durham mint. With just over half of the coin remaining the obverse has an extremely faint facing crowned bust with the partial legend NGL (at approx 10 o'clock) The reverse has a long cross, one arm of which has a crozier end, with three pellets in each quarter.

A Medieval silver sovereign type penny of Henry VII (AD 1485-1509) minted in Durham for Bishop Richard Fox and dating to AD 1494-1501. The coin is slightly clipped and pierced from the reverse at 5 o'clock. North (1991) no 1731. Notes: Pierced post-medieval silver coins are fairly common finds which are known from hoards. There is no evidence of modification or guilding therefore this modified coin has not been submitted for consideration as Treasure, as it does not fit the definition given in the Treasure Act 1996.

A Medieval silver coin; a penny of Edward IV, first reign (AD 1461 - 1470), Heavy coinage, Class IV, minted at Durham using local dies, dating from AD 1461 - 1465. See North (1991), page 84, number 1544). It is 16.3mm in diameter and 0.6mm thick. It weighs 0.58gm. Compare IOW-31E4B3 The coin is a fairly small flan, which is typical of coins of this issue. The coin is cracked and a small piece is missing.
