A probable modern forgery of an silver penny of Offa of Mercia (757-96), light coinage (Chick 27; North 287), mint: London, moneyer: Dud. Ref: Chick 2010; North 1994: 86; Naismith & Naylor 2012, no. 5. The style of the lettering on this penny is very unusual, and more sharply defined than is normally the case with Offa's pennies. It is also extremely heavy for a Light penny. For these reasons, it should probably be dismissed as a modern forgery.
