Obv.: No legend; Bare-headed right, with crescent-shaped 'banker's' mark right in the field. Rev.: [CAESA]R [DI]VI [F]; Venus standing right, leaning left on column with shield at base, holding helmet in right hand and transverse sceptre in left. RIC I, p. 59, cf. no. 250a; BMC I, pl. 14, cf. no. 16; RSC1547. Measurements: 18.65mm in diameter, 1.71mm thick and 3.46g in weight.

A Roman silver denari of Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius (c. 130 BC - 63 BC) dating to 81 BC (Reece period 1) Reverse type depicting the jug and litus. Mint of Northern Italy. The flan on which the coin is struck coin measures 2.1 mm, this is perhaps thicker than regular examples. (RRC (1974:p.390) no. 374.2. The issue was produced by Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius, serving as a Sullan commander in the fight against Carrinas, Norbanus and Carbo. The reverse type may have a Sullan as well as a family significance (RRC 1974).
