Roman coin: silver denarius of Mark Anthony, dating to c.32-31BC. It is Legionary coinage made by a travelling mint. The obverse shows a Galley with banners. It is inscribed [ANT AUG III VIR RPC]. The reverse depicts two Legionary Standards, with a Legionary eagle between them. It is inscribed LEG [XVI]. Crawford, pp. 539-541, No. 544 These coins were struck by Mark Antony for the use of his fleet and legions when he was preparing for the struggle with Octavius, which culminated in the Battle of Actium on the 2nd of September, 31 BC (Grueber, 1970, 526)

An incomplete silver Republican legionary type denarius struck for Mark Anthony in c. 32-31 BC (Reece Period 1), Republican mint travelling with moneyer. Reverse; LEG [...], legionary eagle between two standards. RRC p. 540, cf. no. 544/13ff. Only around 3/4 of the coin remains, with a large fragment having broken off post-deposition. The coin is extremely worn, but enough detail survives to identify it securely.

A complete silver legionary type Roman Republican denarius, issued for Mark Anthony and the 11th legion in c. 32-31 BC (Reece Period 1), travelling mint with moneyer. Reverse; legionary eagle between two standards, LEG XI between. RCC p. 541, no. 544/25. At a bankers mark has been punched into the reverse of the coin, while at least two are present on the obverse. The coin demonstrates a reasonable amount of wear, although all the key details are visible.

The reverse depicts an aquila between two standards. The inscription is illegible. The coin appears to have been mistruck on the obverse, the reverse is very worn so difficult to determine. Dimensions: diameter: 17.90 mm; thickness: 1.50 mm; weight: 3.30g.

The coin is extremely worn with few details remaining, though a crescent shaped bankers mark has been punched above the galley on the obverse.
