Silver Republican legionary denarius of Mark Antony, c.32-31 BC, travelling mint, RRC 544/26
Stamped with an 'N' on the obverse which is a banker's mark. Were it an imperial or official countermark it would be a punched die (Sam Moorhead pers comm).
This coin likely came in with the Roman army during the 1st century AD. However, Mark Antony denarii are known to have remained in circulation until the 3rd century AD.

A Roman republican silver coin; a denarius of Mark Antony struck at a mint moving with him in the Eastern Mediterranean (32 - 31BC). It has a diameter of 18.1mm and is 2.2mm thick. It weighs 3.27g. This coin is part of the 'legionary' coinage, produced to honour the 23 legions and other cohorts. Different varieties celebrate different legions. This example is dedicated to the second legion. These coins often circulated into the third century AD (and their condition usually reflects this). This is a fairly clear example which suggests that it did not circulate for so long. For referenc…

Early Roman coin: silver denarius, probably of Mark Antony as imperator, galley obverse, issued between 32 and 31 BC. This is an example of the 'legionary' coinage struck under Mark Antony to honour the legions and praetorian cohorts.
Unfortunately the coin is very worn, and the reverse type, and any inscriptions are illegible, such that the details of the legion honoured on the coin are illegible.
