A Medieval French Jetton dating to c.15th centuries AD, probably a Tournai stock issue dating to c. 1415-c. 1497, but probably struck after 1478. (obverse as Mitchiner 1988, 223, ref: 651).
The obverse carries a crown within a wire line circle, surrounded by the legend AVE MARIA GRACIA PL ERA DN On the reverse is a double-voided cross fleuretty within a double tressure of four arches. In the centre of the cross is a voided quatrefoil and there is a flower of three petals in each of the angles. The letters A-V-E-M are within the corners.

The reverse shows a triple stranded straight cross fleuretty, with quartrefoil at centre, in a four-arched tressure. No reverse legend. Die axis is uncertain. Probably minted in Tournai. Pierced. French jetton of Tournai issued during the reigns of Louis XII to Francis I of France and dating to c.1497 - 1521. Letter V on the obverse and cross patty on the reverse. On the obverse the D punch used on the die was faulty making the letter more like a B.
The legends represent SIT NOMEN DOMINI, although the M and Ns are comprised of separate verticals and the D appears as a B.
Reference: Mitchiner P240 as no. 732 but no tressure

A Medieval copper-alloy French jetton dating from AD 1373-1415, Chatel of Tournois type, with the legend IE SVI DE LATON BEL very similar to Mitchiner (1988): 189, ref: 513. Measurements are diameter 24.7mm, thickness 1.0mm and weight 2.71g.
Obverse: + IE SVI DE LATON BEL (meaning 'I am of handsome latten'). Formal Chatel Tournois design with lis above its central triangle and annulets on top of the lateral 'turrets'. There is a fleur de lys in the field to either side of the chatel, all within an inner circle.
