A slightly worn silver Medieval short cross cut quarter penny of John (1199-1216), struck by the moneyer Miles, uncertain mint, Class 5 (AD 1204-1210).
The presence of a normal 'S' with central pellet might suggest this coin is class 5b (cf. North 1991 Vol II, No. 970), which would suit the moneyer Miles of Oxford, though the lack of mint prevents a secure classification.

Medieval coin: A struck / hammered silver penny of possibly of John (1199 to 1216), possibly minted between 1204/5 and c.1209. Possibly Class 5b. The reverse has been double struck, which has rendered the reverse illegible so mint and moneyer can not be easily determined. The coin has been misshapen by post depositional damage.
