Groat of Edward VI, posthumous coinage in the name of Henry VIII (1547-51), 25.5mm in diameter and weighing 2.42g(37.4gn). It is weakly struck. Mint: York Reference: North 1876; Spink 2409 This is part of a hoard, which consists of five silver coins (a shilling WILT-5A5B52, three groats WILT-5A2F97, WILT-5A16E4, WILT-59E1D5 and one halfgroat WILT-5A46E1) covering the period between the end of the reign of Henry VIII to the beginning of that of Edward IV, and a silver finger-ring WILT-5A7818. A modern replica of the early medieval 'sword' type pennies of Eric Bloodaxe (c.939-54) dating to c.AD952-4. Struck on a very round flan its weight is too high at 1.64g (the weight standard used for the original issues was 1.4g) and the quality of the die cutting is lower than on the original coins. Possibly related to the Ashmore Replicas of the 1970s and 1980s.  Measurements: diameter: 19.81mm; thickness: 1.25mm; weight: 1.59g. There are only two examples of this coin on the database: LANCUM-2C5698; and LANCUM-2BC4D7.
