This is one of a hoard of 54 coins (26 groats and 28 pennies) ranging from the reigns of Edward I to Edward IV, although most are from the reigns of Henry VI and Edward IV. The groats are generaly well preserved and unclipped, the pennies showing differing degrees of wear, the earliest pieces are particularly worn. A very wornn hammered silver long cross penny from the archiepiscopal mint at York. From the title in the obverse inscription it is probably Edward III pre-Treaty 4th coinage (1351-61), but it could be Edward IV.
