An Early Medieval silver penny of Edgar (959-75), pre-reform phase, circumscription cross type with mint (North 749) dating to c. AD 959-72/3, moneyer: Leofweald/Leofwold, mint: Wilton. Ref: North 1994: p.148; cf. Naismith 2017 no. 1727. The coin is damaged with a fragment missing from the outer circle. The flan has cracks running out from this break.  Measurements: diameter:21.41 mm and weight: 1.49g. A short section of the flan is missing to the inner circle.

Silver cut halfpenny of Edward the Confessor, Sovereign/Eagle type c.1056-59. Obverse inscription: ARD REX [AN]GL Reverse inscription: LFPOLD The moneyer is Ælfwold who was minting in London, Salisbury and Wilton. However, examples where he spelt his name ALFPOLD are know from the Wilton mint.

Description: An Anglo-Saxon silver penny of Edward the Confessor (1042-66), Expanding Cross type, Heavy coinage (early 1050s). The coin has been gilded, and pierced four times close to the edge, from the obverse to the reverse. On the obverse, the holes are arranged at 1, 5, 7 and 11 o'clock and three contain an iron rivet. The die axis is 12. The positioning of the holes suggests that this coin may have been attached to cloth or leather as a dress accessory to display the reverse cross. The image was seen by Martin Allen who states; "There is only one other BMC type ii coin of the Wilton moneyer Godric in the the EMC/SCBI database: a coin in the Yorkshire Museum (SCBI 21, 1184) from the same reverse die, which confirms that the full reading is +GODRIC ON PILTVN".
