A fragment of a silver cut penny of Henry II (1154-1189). Class 5a-c. Probably N970/1. The obverse of the coin is the lower right quarter showing lower part of bust facing and scepter in hand. Inscription; V SR The reverse is a short cross design with quatrefoil in quarter. Inscription; NO R. Possibly Renal of Norwich.

A silver cut halfpenny of voided short-cross type. The crude execution of the bust, along with the misspelling of 'Henricus', indicate that this is probably a Class 4 coin; the moneyer is Willelm or variant; the mint is unclear, but the final two letters are probably 'WI'. Overall, the evidence points to this being a Class 4a-4b coin of Richard I or John, minted by Willelm at Norwich. The coin is worn in places. It measures 17mm in diameter, 0.3mm thick and weighs 0.44g.
