A complete and worn post-Medieval copper-alloy one duit of the Province of Zeeland (Sealand) of the United Provinces of the Netherlands. Date 1789. The coin is bent along the left edge inwards towards the reverse. Obverse inscription: [LUCTOR ET EMER]GO. Lion rampant above waves within shield, crown above shield Reverse: [Z]ELAN/DIA /[17]89

A copper alloy two-duit coin of the Dutch province of Zeeland, sub-lozenge shaped in plan. The coin depicts Prince Maurice on the obverse and the crowned shield of Zeeland on the reverse. This coin was issued many times throughout the mid-seventeeth century; possible dates are AD 1626, 1636-37, 1641-43, 1645, 1649, 1653, 1655, 1657, 1659, 1663, 1669, 1671. A copper alloy 'duit' of the Dutch province of Zeeland dated 1762. Issued by the Dutch East India Company. The duit was equivalent to two pfennigs and was also known as a New York Penny as it was used in the city when it was New Amsterdam. It was also used throughout the Dutch colonies during the 18th century.
