Early Medieval silver coin, early Secondary Phase. Series G sceat (Type 3a, North ref: 43). The obv. shows a diademed bust R. with cross before. The reverse shows a standard with pellet in annulet at the centre and a cross in each angle. The coin is a probable contemporary copy or 'imitative'. The metal appears to be debased with the corrosion indicative of a copper component.

An early medieval silver sceat, early Secondary Phase, Series G (BMC Type 3a; North 43; c.710-720), possibly a contemporary imitation (see below), mint: probably Quentovic (France) for official issues. The attribution here of the coin as a possible contemporary imitation lies in the identification made my Metcalf (1993, pages 266-274; Pl. 16 no. 273) of a coin stylistically different to the main group of Series G coins, lacking the cross on the obverse) and with a silver content of only 45%, low for this part of the Secondary Phase.
