Copper alloy coin. A cartwheel penny of George III (1760 - 1820), second issue, Birmingham Soho mint, 1797. Both sides are very corroded but the obverse has a right facing bust and some lettering still discernible. Diameter is 35.7mm and it weighs 25.0g.

A copper cartwheel penny of George III dating to the period 1797-1820. Second issue Birmingham mint 1797, die axis 6 o'clock. The obverse is worn but there is a right facing laureate and draped bust depicted. The legend incuse on a raised rim is also very worn but GEORGIUS III D.G. REX is just discernible. The reverse depicts Britannia sitting left, holding a trident in left arm and a sprig aloft in the right hand. The legend reads BRITANNIA. It is likely that the date 1797 would have also been impressed into the raised rim but this is no longer visible. The British Cartwheel…
