A corroded but partly legible copper coin of James II, issued as substitute coinage in Ireland during the campaign against William III and Mary. These are are often known as 'gun money' and were made of melted down onjects of high copper content, including bells and weaponry. Obverse:- Bust of James II, left, legend around possibly '[JACOBVS II] DEI G[RATIA] Reverse:- Mostly indistinguishable, but parts of the legend 'FRA ET HIB' are discernible.

A copper alloy James II Irish Gun Money Shilling. This coin, from the small issue, was struck in June 1690. The obverse has the laureate Head of James II and the reverse has the crowned sceptres with XII. The coin is in worn condition with a smooth dark green patina with brown staining and surface damage.

A copper alloy Irish coin; a 'Gunmoney' halfcrown of James II (AD 1685 - AD 1691), dating from AD 1689. The reverse depicts crossed sceptres behind a double arched crown, with 'J' to left of crown and 'R' to right, 1689 and XXX (mark of value) above and the month indicated below, but sadly illegible. See Spink (2003) Coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands, page 168, number 6579A - 6579LL. The coin is 32.3mm diameter, 2.5mm thick and 11.29g.
