A silver halfpenny of Edward I Second Coinage ('EDW') 1279-1302. The crowned bust is in a triangle rather than the circle used in England and the coin was minted in Waterford, Ireland. The obverse design is quite distinct as it retained the triangle surrounding the portrait rather than the circle used in England. Irish coins were acceptable in England

On the reverse is a long cross with three pellets in each angle with the legend: CIVITAS WATERFOR. The coin has been bent, possibly for use as a love token.
