A silver Scottish coin of the post medieval period which is folded in half. Only the reverse is visible. It is a quarter thistle merk of James VI, dating from AD 1601 - 1604 with the reverse legend: REGEM IOVA PROTEGIT, depicting a crowned thistle. Spink (2003) coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands, number 5499. Dimensions: Diameter 20.6 mm, weight 1.37g.
