A worn and damaged silver medieval groat of James III of Scotland (1460-88), Light Issue dating to c.AD1482 (Spink S5280), mint: Edinburgh. Ref: Spink 2003: p.39. The coin is damaged with only a short section of the outer circle surviving alongside most of the field. The breaks are irregular leaving only around 40-50% of the coin has surviving. Max Diameter: 21.32 mm; Weight: 0.60g

An incomplete silver medieval Scottish halfgroat of James III of Scotland (1460-88), Type IV 'Light Issue' dating to c.1482 (Spink S5282), mint: Edinburgh. Ref: Spink 2003: 40. The coin is in poor condition, badly damaged and clipped. Much of the outer circle is missing with irregular edges suggesting most of this is breakage rather than clipping. Spink, 2015, pg 44 and Burns, 1887, Vol II, pg 124. Obverse: crowned bust facing with four lis to crown, within a tressure of seven arches. The legend reads +IACOBVS DEI GRA REX SCOTORm. Reverse: Long cross with a five-pointed mullet in the first and third quarters and three pellets in the second and forth quadrants. The outer legend reads as DnS PT/ECTORm/S Z LIBEA/TVRmS and the inner reads as VILL/A EDE/nBEO/VRGE.
