Silver, clipping (probably) from a shilling of Charles I (1625-49), i.m.: sun (1645-6), mint: Tower under Parliament. It is possible that the clipping came from a halfcrown rather than a shilling but on the basis of the evidence a shilling appeared more likely.

Silver coin. Hammered Shilling of Charles I (1625-1649), possibly issue of 1636-1638 (this depends on identification of mint mark); the reverse more closely resembles production of Tower mint for Parliament, 1642-1648, perhaps 1645 if alternative mintmark is sustained. Obverse description: Crowned bust with tall crown and wavy hair, V-necked drapery, left; within beaded circle, XII behind bust. Execution, especially lettering, is poor. Obverse inscription: CAROLVS:D.G.MA[-]R:[--]HI:B R?EX Reverse description: Shield with Arms of England, Scotland and Ireland, short cros…

A silver plated copper alloy forgery of a Charles I (1625-49) shilling. Some of the silver has worn away or has been damaged, revealing the copper alloy core. The original shilling would have been struck in the Tower Mint under Parliament and is probably a copy of North's Group F, but as no initial mark can be seen it is not possible to be certain. The bust on the obverse is so worn that only a fragment of the crown can be seen. The reverse silver plate has suffered from iron staining and corrosion, again revealing the copper core in places.

No inner circles and a small flat single arched crown. On the reverse the oval garnished shield is visible. The legend on both faces is heavily worn and has been partially clipped away. The obverse should read CAROLVS D G M B F ET H REX and the reverse IVSTITIA THRONVM FIRMAT Date is 1638-39. mint is London. Diam…

Most of the inscriptions are illegible as are both obverse and reverse initial marks, making anything other than a general date difficult.
