An incomplete Early-medieval debased silver penny of Edward the Confessor (AD 1042-1066). 'Pointed Helmet' type struck between AD 1053-1056. About 50% of the coin's outer edge is broken and missing so much of the legend on each face has been lost. The remaining letters on the reverse suggest the moneyer was Brihtric. Moneyers of this name were known to have operated in Colchester, Ipswich, Lincoln, Taunton and Wallingford. Unfortunately the mint town is missing due to damage. North 825, BMC vii, Hild.F.
