A silver cut half of a voided long cross penny of Henry III (1216-1272), Class 3b or 3c (1248-1250), struck at the Newcastle mint. The moneyer's name is not present, but the men operating from the Newcastle mint at the time of Class III were Roger, Adam, Henri and Ion (North, 1994, Vol.1, p.226, nos.987-988) and there is room for 5 letters so the moneyer is either Roger or Henri. The obverse is cut vertically through the crowned head, but the star initial mark is visible above the central fleur of the crown. Silver cut half of a voided long cross penny of Henry III (1216-1272), Class IIIa (1248-1250) with the 'h' of hENRIICVS starting at 1 o'clock, and the bust with tight curls and pellets of beard in an oblique line, moneyer John, mint Newcastle with the two Ns of ONN in the reverse legend ligatured together (Wren, 1993, 51).
