A silver denarius of Carausius dating to the period AD 286 to 293 (Reece period 14). (VIRT?) CARAVSI AVG reverse type depicting lion advancing left with thunderbolt in jaws. Mintmark: -//RSR; commonly attributed to London, but to be studied further. RIC V, pt 2 - The reverse of this coin has been double-struck. There is one other similar coin, with inscription VIRT CARAVSI AVG (hence suggesting this coin is VIRT rather than VIRTVS), in Sam Moorhead's corpus for RIC.

RIC V, pt 2, p. 510, cf. no. 548. Although denarii of Carausius are rare, this is one of the more common types. This coin is included in Sam Moorhead's corpus for RIC.
