Post medieval fishing net weights; fired clay, sub-oval objects with piercing at one end suggesting that they were probably intended as fishing net weights or similar. The location of the find (within 100m of the bank of the River Trent) adds evidence to this interpretation. The weights are of a fine, bright orange-red fabric, similar to terracotta. There were originally six weights, found together, but three have unfortunately been broken. The remaining three are as follows:
Large, sub-oval weight with broad, oval cross-section. The weight has a single, sub-circular hole through on…

An abraded sherd of Roman samian pottery, probably a 2nd century AD Gaulish Dragendorff type 37 bowl.
The main feature of this body sherd is the moulded decoration around the outside. The scene depicts a bull butting left; the forelegs of a second quadruped can be seen immediately above and the hind legs of a third animal (or possibly human arms?) lie to the left of the bull. In addition to the zoomorphic decoration, there is moulded grass along the bottom of the panel and, to the right of the bull, vine-like scroll. A ropework border marks the bottom of the panel and below this is …

The fabric is also highly micaeous. The fabric colour is a uniform mid buff orange with the outer surface having a reduced grey colour. Glaze has been applied over this grey coloured external face. This glaze is a mid-dark yellowish green co…
