Pottery
Sherd from a strap handle of oval section, in a pale sandy partially reduced fabric with tiny white, possibly calcareous, inclusions. The outer surface of the handle bears the degraded remains of pale green splashed glaze. These characteristics may ally this piece to the East Yorkshire Orangewares or Beverleyware II of 1250-1350, or an earlier version defined as Beverleyware I, current 1150-1250 (Watkins 1991, 80-90), though here possibly made south of the Humber in a local potting tradition. Suggested date: Medieval, 1150-1350.
