Two sherds of heavily abraded medieval green glaze pottery, possibly late Brandby-Type Ware or Scarborough Ware jug or similar, circa 1300 to 1500. One sherd is a fragment of handle, one is from the upper part of the vessel. Sandy grey fabric with grey core, with fine infrequent gritty inclusions. Most of the deep green glaze has been lost, remaining in the incised parallel lines on the sherd, and in the stamped diamonds on the handle.

2 sherds of Medieval pottery, Splash Glaze Ware or similar, 12th to 13th Century. One sherd is light orange/light grey fabric with gritty inclusions, the other is pale pink/orange/grey fabric with fine infrequent gritty/sandy inclusions. Both have small irregular splashes of light green/brown glaze typical of the Splash Glaze industry, although this may just be through heavy wear. Both appear to be sections of the base and side of storage jars or cooking pots. Larger sherd is 69.7 x 49.5 x 12.6mm, smaller sherd is 41.4 x 33.1 x 9.7mm.

Two sherds of Late Roman pottery. Dark grey/black fabric with frequent white micaceus or calcite inclusions. Most of the inclusions are small (these smaller inclsions may be shell), whilst a few are as large as 5mm. The surfaces are slightly irregular, and have pitting where inclusions have been lost. The larger sherd (71.3*36.1*30.0mm) is a fragment of rim whilst the smaller (63.9*38.6*10.4mm) is part of the wall of a vessel. Both are of similar fabric but are most likely to be from seperate vessels (most likely storage jars). The sherds resemble Calcite Gritted Ware, and a late R…

There are moderate white micaceus/calcite inclusions up to around 3mm in size, and smaller shell fragaments (around 1mm in size). The surfaces are smooth (possibly burnished) to both exterior and interior, though slightly irregular. The outer surface is decorated by two incised parallel bands running horizontally across the sherd. The bands are approximately 2.5mm thick, and 23mm apart. Sherd of late Medieval or early Post Medieval pottery. A hard, fine, slightly sandy pale orange/red fabric with a grey reduced interior surface. The external surface has traces of a partial glaze in the form of several coppery brown spots. The glaze could suggest a splash glazed Scarborough Gritty Ware or York Splashed Glazed Ware of c1050-1250. However, the fabric is more generic and resembles Humberware of c1250-1550, and this latter date range is the most likely.

A fragment of a vessel of Roman date. The fragment is the base of a Samian ware vessel. The base is circular in plan and convex which is a standard feature of such vessels. Only a small amount of the vessel proper remains with most having been broken off. The breaks are very worn. There appears to be a makers stamp on the internal surface of the vessel though this is difficult to identify. The finder believes this example to be from either a Form 37 with curving sides or a Form 30 with vertical sides.

A rim sherd from a vessel of Roman date. The sherd is from a wheelmade greyware vessel. It has a large, curved, over-hanging rim proper, with an internal incised line. It is also decorated with a run of incised zig-zag marking next to the line and a second run of wider spaced zig-zags on the rim edge. The fabric is a light brownish-grey colour and is coarse to the touch with <3mm white (? chalk) inclusions as well as mica and ironstone.
