Pottery Sherd from a strap handle of oval section, in a pale sandy partially reduced fabric with tiny white, possibly calcareous, inclusions. The outer surface of the handle bears the degraded remains of pale green splashed glaze. These characteristics may ally this piece to the East Yorkshire Orangewares or Beverleyware II of 1250-1350, or an earlier version defined as Beverleyware I, current 1150-1250 (Watkins 1991, 80-90), though here possibly made south of the Humber in a local potting tradition. Suggested date: Medieval, 1150-1350. Length: 40mm, Width: 35mm, Thickness: 15mm, Wei…

A square cross-sectioned handle part from a medieval jug. The off-white pottey features varying numbers of slash marks which would have helped regulate the firing of the vessel. These can be found on the upper surface and also the sides. At the junction of the handle with the body of the jug the object flares to a width of 38.6mm (from 17.3mm). Around the junction, and in patches elsewhere, are splashes of a mid-green yellow glaze. The handle has been slightly twisted.
