A rim sherd from a flanged Roman greyware bowl. The sherd is roughly quadrilateral in shape. The rim is 16.8mm thick and has a central grooved channel uppermost. The fabric is micaceous with burnishing to the exterior. This bowl was probably made in the New Forest kilns.

A worn and abraded later Roman body sherd from a rilled jar. The sherd is coarse with abundant quartzite inclusions: it is 'Portchester fabric D'/Overwey (Hants/Surrey Border) buff ware. It is now irregularly shaped has features some sooting.

Probably a large greyware body sherd from a large, thick-walled Roman vessel, probably a storage jar. The fragment is worn and abraded with an irregular shape. It is light, slightly yellow, grey on its formerly visible surfaces with some darker patches. The core varies from this to a darker grey. The fabric is coarse with some flint inclusions. There is internal finger clawing on this fragment. The place of manufacture for this greyware sherd is likely to be the Hallcourt Wood kilns at Shedfield, Hampshire.

Two fragments of a Medieval floor tile. The tiles were made by hand and are of the type known as inlaid or encaustic, referring to the decoration. The tiles were first stamped to leave an impression and then filled with a contrasting coloured liquid clay, white or off-white in both cases. Once dry the any excess clay removed to reveal the design. The tiles were then covered with a glaze material and fired. Such tiles are usually only found in buildings of relatively high status.
