Irregular sub-rectangular fragment of kiln waste / kiln furniture. The fragment is heavily fired although now much abraded with many irregular small circular or sub-circular holes (diameter 1.4mm). The fabric is a mid - light grey colour; it is mica rich with rose coloured quartz inclusions. There is not a broken edge to examine the fabric in detail. A direct parallel is not available but the findspot – along with fragments of medieval vessels may suggest a medieval date. A single sherd of handmade pottery, probably of prehistoric date, weighing 7g.. It is a bodysherd, oxidised with a blackened outer surface which is grass-marked. There is fine grit and shell tempering. It was found in the same area as Roman sherds, see SF-E797D6.
