Two sherds of glazed earthenware pottery dating from the later medieval or early post medieval (1400-1650). The two sherds conjoin along a worn and abraded edge, suggesting that the break is old. The sherds are from therefore from a single vessel, probably a large dish or wide rimmed plate. The fabric is a relatively soft earthenware with a number of small rounded and sub-angular grit, and white quartz inclusions. There is also a high proportion of mica and sand like grains present in the fabric. The fabric is a powdery orange colour. The interior face of the dish is decorated with a m…

A sherd from the rim of a vessel of probable later medieval (1350-1500) date. The sherd is most likely to be from a small jar or pot; it has not been sooted and so is unlike to have been used as a cooking vessel. The fabric of the sherd is a relatively hard earthenware with a number of small angular and sub-angular grit, grog and ironstone inclusions. There is also a large amount of mica in the fabric. A very thin body sherd from the side wall of a vessel of probable medieval (1250-1350) date. The fineness of this sherd suggests a high status function. The external face of the sherd is glazed with a relatively thin patchy yellowish green coloured glaze which covers the whole of the surface. The glaze is uniform in nature; where it has been abraded in the soil the oxidised orange colour of the pottery shows through. The glaze is currently laminating due to conditions in the burial environment. The base of the pot and rim are missing. A series of circumferential ribs are present but th…

Two conjoining sherds joined by finder to form a relatively large body sherd from the neck or upper side wall of a large vessel of probable medieval (1250-1350) date. The vessel is most likely to be a tubby jug or similar large serving vessel. The external face of the sherd is glazed with a light yellowish green colour glaze which covers the whole of the external face. The glaze is patchy in places and seems to have been applied by dipping with vertical streaks / run marks being present. An area of possible slashed decoration is present near the top of the sherd; this would form a band…
