Lead hinge. A cast rectangular section plate, expanded and slotted at one end to receive an inserted lead spindle engaging a perforated lug projecting from the end of a similar but narrower plate, which is broken close to the meeting of the two components. A hole is pierced in the larger plate near the hinge, suggesting attachment; an impressed circle of diameter 7.5mm my suggest a large  or decorative head for the fastening pin. Patinated. The soft material would seem far from ideal for such a mechanical use. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Medieval, 43-1500 Length: 43.8mm, Wi…

A cast lead unidentified object, of unknown date, AD 43 - 1900. It is more spherical than hemispherical; domed with a flat reverse. One side is also flattened, perhaps as post depositional damage. An integral lead shaft projects from the centre of the circular flat face. The shaft has four longitudinal ridges and appears to be complete despite the short length. The lead has a smooth cream patina suggesting some age.  Length: 14.65mm Weight: 16.47g Diameter: 15.1mm The object may be a stud or a peg for a game. It could also be an incomplete button. Lead or lead alloy plate brooch fragment. Cast brooch with curvilinear beaded moulded decoration, to this reporter describing a triskele with opposed curls at the end of each of its arms around a central pellet, or perhaps as a running spiral motif. This appears to imitate the decoration of an Early Anglo-Saxon saucer brooch, which is not a common object class in the Humber region, though later brooches resembling this form are known (e.g. Weetch Type 6, dated to 900-1000; a similar brooch with central inset was reported from Lurk Lane, Beverley as a probably residual Viking Age find b…

Lead alloy and iron probable pin head. Cast sub-rectangular plate with five moulded rounded bosses forming a cross shape on its display side – the pattern recalls plate brooches of Weetch Type 9 dated to AD 800-1000 and this might even be one if use of an iron pin were admitted – and with the rusted relict of an iron shank on the back. As a pin, a drilled hole might point to derivation from a degraded species of linked pin. Abraded. Lead and iron pin fragment. Cast globular lead head retaining the stub of an inserted iron shank. Dave Haldenby kindly suggests a 9th-century date. Pins of this form rejoice under the early medieval classification Flixborough type FE011. However, this reporter would deem the combination of iron shank and plain lead head as equally likely to be of Post-Medieval date when coming from a group of field finds, whether for coiffure or even as a more recent hat pin.
