A complete lead vessel repair or Pot Mend of Roman to Medieval date (AD 43-1500). The object is a cast plug to mend a hole in a vessel wall. The object is composed of an outer sub-ovate plate with a tapered inward circumferential portion and a smaller, sub-ovate plate which would have attached the plate to the body of the vessel. Length: 25.44mm, Width: 23.43mm, Thickness: 9.15mm, Weight: 21.8g The metal is a dark cream and grey in colour with a slightly pitted patina.

A cast lead miniature axe of possible Roman date. It is square in section at the butt end, tapering in width towards the blade end where it flares to produce a triangular plan and profile. At the butt end is an circular socket. TIt measures 19.04mm in length, 10.11mm in width, 1.70mm in thickness (at blade end), and weighs 3.45g. This is possibly a votive axe similar to other examples recorded through the PAS database (e.g. IOW-DFA401, FAKL-B0C080, SF-BD6BA3, SF-4AB493 or SF-105BC3). A lead pot mend and a fragment of the ceramic vessel, of probable Roman date, AD 43 - 410. The mend is two discs of lead, one large and oval and one smaller and nearly square. They are joined by a short stem (making the mend H shaped in cross-section) through a hole in the ceramic vessel. Some of the ceramic fabric survives. It appears to be a greyware with frequent quartz inclusions, suggesting a Roman date. Measurements are; length 28.3mm, width 24.2mm, thickness 9.9mm and weight 22.87g.

The inner side of the plug [as poured] bears a scratched graffito resembling a kite, with a central cross for struts. The finder kindly suggests this may represent a mitred face, though there are no features to suggest eyes, mouth or nose.. Patinated. The neat finish might commend a Roman date. It has a cream coloured patina. It is 23.4mm in diameter and 8.1mm high. It weighs 20.5g.  Form A1 whorls are usually dated by Walton Rogers to AD 500 - 1000, but they also appear in the Roman period (Walton Rogers, 2007, page 25). There is a copper alloy loop still in place at the top the end of which can be seen at the base. The surface of the metal is pitted and marked and is generally of a cream and grey colouring with the bottom half of the weight being heavily corroded and more white in colour.
