An extremely Medieval French Jetton dating to c.15th centuries AD, probably a Tournai stock issue dating to c. 1415-c. 1497, but probably struck after 1478. (obverse as Mitchiner 1988, 223, ref: 651). The obverse carries a crown within a wire line circle, surrounded by the legend AVE MARIA GRACIA PL ERA DN On the reverse is a double-voided cross fleuretty within a double tressure of four arches. In the centre of the cross is a voided quatrefoil and there is a flower of three petals in each of the angles. The letters A-V-E-M are within the corners.

The obverse has a lion rampant in an eleven arched tressure with an outer border of stalking trefoils with pellets between (Mernick Series 5a, Obverse 4). The reverse has a cross fleury with quatrefoil centre, within a quatrelobed tressure with floral sprays in the spandrels and trefoils on the inside of the cusps (Mernick Series 5a, Reverse 32). The centre has been pierced from the obverse side as an anti counterfeiting measure.
