A heavily worn and incomplete Bronze Age palstave axe head.
Extensive surface loss has occurred along the edges and surfaces of the find, giving the axe and thin irregular form.
The butt end is sub-square, and is slightly more truncated to one side. From the butt, the sides flare slightly. The side flanges are missing; however, the stop ridge is still prominently visible, especially on one side. From the stop ridge, the blade tapers slightly (due to surface loss) before flaring marginally to the cutting edge which is heavily truncated and rounded. A partial rib is visible on one face…

An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy strap end dating to circa AD 1200-1400. Part of a composite strap end, the piece comprised of one plate. It is rectangular in plan with a shield shaped terminal from which projects an incomplete trefoil or triangular knop. Now heavily abraded and scarred, an intact separately made copper alloy rivet is positioned centrally towards the attachment end.
Similar examples are recorded in Egan and Pritchard 2002: 125-161.

An early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) cast copper alloy saucer brooch, dating to c. AD.450-550. The front of the brooch is dished, with an angular and upturned rim around; this is incomplete on one side. The front of the brooch is decorated with a five pointed star pattern formed by double-ridged concave arcs enclosed by an engraved concentric line around a small central boss. There is no trace of gilding. The reverse has an in-line hinge lug and catchplate. There is extensive deposition of iron corrosion products around the hinge lug from a now lost iron spring and pin.

The face has incised decoration in the form of five dot-in-annulet motifs, one at the centre with four arranged equidistant around it. Description: The key has a substantial circular bow which appears to be undecorated. A copper alloy buckle.
The buckle, cast, is roughly rectangular in plan, trapezoid in cross section. There is decoration running around the perimeter of the internal frame in the form of diagonal grooves. Each corner of the outer edge of the frame ends in a point knop although one corner is truncated with the knop now missing. Centrally, along each shorter outer edge the frame curves in an ‘M’ shape.
The strap bar is truncated and missing. A slight indent present in the frame may indicate the original presence of a pin, now lost.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy T.shaped Initial, hinged brooch of Roman date (AD 50-150).
Description: The head of the brooch consists of tubular wings, with a slot for a hinged pin, now missing, the axis bar for which is threaded through the wings. The bow narrows slightly from the head and ends in a transverse break. It is decorated with a raised moulded triangle, the sides of which are engraved. The foot of the brooch is missing along with the catchplate. The brooch has a dark brown patina.

The mane and the sides of the mask are rendered with broad cuts and the hind limbs and tails are much more angular than is usual with the proto-heraldic examples of this form.
