A copper alloy object, probably tenterhook of late Medieval to  post-medieval date, about AD 1450 -1800. It is an L shaped bar of copper alloy. The longer end tapers to a wide blunt wedge. The bend is at an acute angle. The shorter end is of rounded cross-section and tapers to a point. Measurements; length 41.8mm, width 24.4mm, thickness 4.5mm, weight 6.24g Tenterhooks come from tenter frames on which cloth was stretched to dry. An incomplete copper alloy tenterhook dating to the Medieval to Post Medieval periods (c. AD 1350-1700). The object is elongated diamond-shaped in plan and square in cross-section.The outer face has a raised cross-shape in the centre. The hooked ends, that face away from the reverse of the object at either terminus are incomplete. The object has a light green patina.  Comparable examples recorded on the PAS database are YORYM-BB1A93, BUC-074B47 and  NMS-5B90AC. A complete copper-alloy tenterhook of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1600-1900. The object comprises a circular sectioned shaft with pointed spiked terminal to one end. The opposite end forks into a shorter, hooked point. The tenterhook is 64.41mm long, 6.26mm in diameter and weighs 16.3g. Tenterhooks were afixed at intervals to tenter racks, which were large wooden frames on which wet cloth was stretched and dried to prevent shrinkage. Complete cast medieval or post-medieval copper-alloy tenterhook (c. 1200 - 1900 AD). A long pin, diamond-shaped in section, tapers to a point at both ends and is bent back on itself to form a hook at one end. At the middle of the pin is a decorative section of two cubes, decorated on the front two surfaces by hatched grooves and on the back surface by horizontal grooves. A complete copper alloy possible possible tenterhook of Post-Medieval date. The object is sub-ovate in plan tapering to rounded points which are curved round towards the back of the main plate at either end. The edges are bevelled and the central portion has a rectangular section while the narrower ends are sub-square. No decorations or markings are present. The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. Cast copper alloy item, possibly a Medieval or Post Medieval tenterhook. The piece is a bent bar, square in section at one end tapering to a rounded point at the other. The square end is straight for about a third of the lengh it is then bent back on itself 120 degrees in a relatively sharp bend, it then curves back down slightly (30 degrees) so the pointed end is at right angles to the straight section.
