Copper alloy possible offcut. Triangular fragment of sheet, lightly crumpled at its wider end, with sooting or black coating visible under magnification. While this might conceivably be a plain strap end fragment in view of its rounded narrow end, there is no means of attachment and no more obvious decoration, though Thomas notes (2003) that plain strap ends accompany those decorated styles included in his typology. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Medieval, 43-1500 Length: 21.8mm, Width: 12.0mm, Thickness: 0.7mm, Weight: 0.94gms

Copper alloy offcut. A straight-sided strip of sheet metal, narrowed at one end where tiny spurs flank a terminal, and with a squared end at the other. A patch of black glossy material at one end recalls the post-medieval custom of coating metal with oil, paint or lacquer. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1800 Length: 48.7mm, Width: 6.3mm, Thickness: 0.6mm, Weight: 1.83gms

Copper alloy offcut. A narrow strip, slightly thickened along one long edge, and torn or cut along the other long edge, prompting the finder’s kind suggestion that this may be from a vessel rim. It is, however, rather thin and fragile to come from a vessel of the size that a [?]residual curve might suggest. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Medieval, 43-1500 Length: 61.8mm, Width: 12.0mm, Thickness: 1.1mm, Weight: 4.48gms

Copper alloy offcut. A rectangular strip of copper alloy with cut edges and a pierced hole of diameter 4.5mm, rolled tightly. The resulting configuration fortuitously resembles the battered body of a toy soldier with holes for the insertion of two separate arms - the usual practice of British toy manufacturers was to make only the right arm of a figure adjustable. The object has probably been subjected to intense heat. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1900 Length (as found): 20.7mm, Width: 15.6mm, Thickness: 2.3mm, Weight: 12.18gms

Copper alloy probable offcut. A straight-sided strip of copper alloy sheet of thickness 0.2mm, repeatedly folded with sharp creases and now forming a compact lump. This might be an offcut saved for recycling, though the sharp folding is also characteristic of repair clips used to mend split wooden vessels.
