Incomplete Late Saxon lead object, either a strap-end or model for a trefoil brooch. Slightly asymetrical tongue-shape with a transverse break at the upper edge, plain rasied border around cast asymetrical decoration in low relief consisithng of double-ribbed foliate tendrils with the body of a bird or beast within them.One tendril may extend over the border, but wear and damage make this uncertain. Apart from slight damage, the reverse is plain. Length 34.5mm. Width 31mm. Maximum thickness 4mm.

A piece of cut copper alloy measuring 31.5x25x(max)5mm (min 4.5mm). It weighs 23.09g (0.815 oz). It is octagonal in shape, the sides of similar length (longest 13mm, shortest 9mm) though rather crudely done, suggesting it has not been shaped to be a decorative fitting, for example. On one face is one faint and one clear design, apparantly similar, of an oval outline created by tiny punch marks and approximately 11.5x9mm (clear) and 12x10mm (less clear) in size. A copper alloy female head and shoulders. The facial features have been modelled slightly crookedly. The downturned almond shaped eyes are deeply incised and the slit for the mouth is not symmetricaslly under the rather fleshy nose. The hair is pulled back into a bun at the nape of the neck. The hairline is delineated by a row of incised S shapes. There are no ears shown. A well made toy or model cannon with hollow core; the barrel tapers from the domed closed end to an integrally moulded band and then flares to the aperture. The dome has a top-hat shaped finial and there are 3 slightly raised panels running around the barrel, the middle one has two integrally cast protrusions (one at either side).
