A complete copper alloy tool, probably of medieval or post-medieval date, perhaps a marlin spike or fid used during rope making and for untying knots. The object is circular in section, long and conical. The wider end is rounded with a depression in the centre suggesting that it was struck by a hammer. The other end tapers to a blunt point which also shows signs of impact. There is a small circular hole that does not go through to the other side close to the tip of this pointed end.
