A fragment of a copper alloy object, probably part of a latch or catch of post medieval to modern date. The object is curved in profile and all that remains is a T-shaped terminal which has traces of rusted iron on one side and a projecting stump on the other; this has a moulded T-shaped collar with ridged and beaded borders which tapers to a break.

An incomplete copper alloy artefact, possibly from a door or window latch dating to circa AD 1600-1800.  It has a zoomorphic decoration in shape of a bird with a long curved beak. The reverse is flat and undecorated. It measures 53.5mm long at its longest point 4mm thick 14mm across at widest point. A parallel can be found on the database; DEV-12DEE1 discovered in Somerset. Another similar example has been published by Read (2021, 294-295) no. 1666.

Incomplete post-medieval latch. One end, of sub-rectangular cross-section, is broken. The other is in the form of a stylised bird's head with an enormous curving beak above a collar. Engraved lines, confined to one face and rather worn, emphasis the collar, divide the beak and outline the eye. An incomplete copper alloy post-medieval to modern (AD c.1550-c.1900) possible latch. Overall, the latch measures 131.4mm long, 22.8mm wide and 11.2mm thick. It weighs 69.58g. It is formed from a cylindrical rod terminating at one end with a circular loop and at the other with an incomplete hook. The rod tapers from 9.1mm in diameter at the loop end to 7.8mm at the hook end. There are two equally spaced collars of three circumferential ridges, each collar measuring c.10mm long and c.11mm in diameter. The other is in the form of a stylised bird's head with an enormous curving beak. On both faces decoration, which is quite worn, comprises engraved lines and a pair of drilled blind holes. There is a moulded collar on the upper neck. The reverse of the object is plain and undecorated. The latch is probably of post medieval to modern date and has a dark green patina with dark purple patches. The object is similar to HAMP-477952 and KENT-ACF377 and a published example by Bailey (2001: 63).

A cast copper-alloy object, probably a window latch terminal. The latch appears to be in the shape of a long-beaked bird's head, with what could be incised detail for the beak and eye. However this is unclear due to wear on the object. There is also a moulded collar at the end of the object.The other side is plain and undecorated. The object has a dark purple patina with green patches. The latch is probably post medieval to modern.Similar to object HAMP-477952 in the database. The object measures 46.54mm in length, by 30.32mm in width, is 4.29mm thick, and weighs 16.72g.

A copper alloy probable thumb piece or latch from a gate or door. It is in two pieces, broken at the hole where the axis bar would have run through. The thumb plate is disc-shaped, narrowing into a shaft, circular in section. This curves towards the end, with an acorn-like knop. The presence of copper alloy as the primary material suggests an earlier date than modern, although the metal has not patinated much. It consists of a loop 10mm wide, with a central hole 3mm wide. This is attached to the main shaft which has a rectangular section. An incomplete copper alloy latch in the form of a bird. The latch is in the shape of a birds slightly downwards curving beak and head. There is a groove between the beak and head. The head has a circular impression in it to form an eye. The back of the latch is flat and undecorated and some corroded iron is present. The rest of the latch is missing due to an old break. A similar but larger complete latch can be found in Payne (1997, p67, No. 8), this parallel is dated to between the 17th and 19th century.
