County: Warwickshire

The object is a base sherd of reduced ware, probably of a jar. Reduced ware in Warwickshire is most common in North Warwickshire rather than South Warwickshire, and there are possibly many centres of production, but little is known about them. The sherd will probably date between the 1st and 4th centuries. The base of the vessel is 56.9mm in diameter on the exterior. The only decoration on the exterior surface is two parallel grooves just below the neck. The fabric is a mid grey throughout, and has a slightly powdery surface. The sherd weighs 52g.
