Incomplete copper-alloy and iron Iron Age terret. The terret is raised in the centre and is 'vulvate' in form. The raised centre curves around the terret and tapers around the sides to broken ends Either end is curved shallowly in on the same plane as the raised middle. The tips of these ends are broken. On the opposite side of the middle is a broken iron flat shaft which is the remains of fitting. Around this is much iron corrosion. Copper alloy probable horse trapping. Kevin Easton kindly comments as follows: '... I think this partifact would have been a horse brass, my mum has one similar on her fireplace with repeated pattern...'. A flat plate bearing adjacent heart-shaped figures springing from a curving band punctuated by round holes of diameter 4mm. Damage to both the outer edges suggests the series continued with further, presumably identical, elements. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1800-1900. Height: 28.7mm, Width: 34.6mm, Thickness: 1.7mm, Weight: 6.78gms

Cast copper alloy fragment of a horse bit, or possibly fragment of harness, dating from the post-medieval or early modern period, that is 17th-19th century. Only part of the ring and moulded collar survive; the shank is missing. The ring is no longer complete: the top side is missing, probably worn away, then broken off. All surfaces are very worn and the most likely date, by shape and wear, is post-medieval to modern.

A complete cast copper alloy horse plume holder of probable 18th or 19th century date. The object is broadly cylindrical with tapering sides and is hollow; one end is open for the insertion of the plume, while two rivet holes below the lip would have secured the plume in place. At the opposing end of the object the cylinder narrows abruptly and terminates in a rounded knop. There is circumferential recessed banding around the trapping and the terminating knop has a rivet hole with iron corrosion. Later examples have a screw thread. A small number of similar items have been recorded on…
