An incomplete cast copper-alloy food preparation tool of post-Medieval to Modern date (c. 1700-c. 1900). This implement is 'T'-shaped and the missing end would have been in the form of a frame containing a serrated wheel. The surviving end has seven 'teeth'. Both ends would have been for crimping pastry. The handle is divided by a double collar, either side of which is bulbous and sub-circular in cross-section. A number of similar implements have been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database. Some may in fact be combs for making an impression on Roman flue-til…

Probably a copper alloy attachment plate for a handle, possibly a Late Medieval or Post Medieval skimmer handle attachment plate. The sheet has a central semi circular raised section with flat sections to either side. The central raised section tapers to a point at one end. There are four rivet holes, two to each side, one near the wider end and one about two thirds of the way down. The wide end is probably complete, with the two corners cut off at an angle. This item appears to be a reinforced socket to hold a rod only something flat. It might be a skimmer handle attachment plate as …

A corroded cast copper-alloy wheel from a post-medieval pastry jigger (c. 18th century AD). The wheel has a serrated, zig-zig circumference for cutting. It is pierced centrally for an axis bar which in turn would have been held within a handle (cf. Bailey 1995, 96-97).

A sheet copper-alloy fragment of a possible socketed skimmer handle, similar to more complete examples from Norwich (Margeson, 1993, 118-119, fig 84 no 743 and 745), most likely to be early post medieval, 1600-1700 in date. This fragment consists of a tubular flattened piece of sheet copper-alloy, the two longitudinal ends overlap and there is a copper-alloy rivet holding them together. The socket end is complete and the other end, which would probably have flared into an integral skimmer, is missing due to old breaks, now worn. One folded longitudinal edge is also missing due…

The item has three stylistic portions, the terminal which is flat and waisted, the central portion which is circular in cross section, and the lower portion which appears unfinished. The terminal has a flat straight edge with five parallel slots along the edge. One corner of this edge is missing, not a recent break. Two of this slots appear to be filled by a rectangular shaped material, which is dark brown and shiny in colour and texture - ?iron. This portion of the item tapers in plan and expands forming a droplet shape. The droplet shape is decorated with a low relief ring and dot de…
